Monumental Labs, a venture-backed company based in New York, is building robotic stone carving factories to unleash a renaissance in art and architecture. We’re looking to hire experienced digital fabricators to program and run our 7-axis stone-carving robots and other CNC machines.

Your job will be to turn the ideas of artists, architects, and private clients into sculpture and ornament. Our projects range from fine art and public monuments, to architectural sculpture and ornament in both restoration and new buildings. Experience in the fabrication of sculpture, classical architectural forms, or contemporary architectural ornament is a bonus.

On the robot programming and operations side:

• You’ll use Powermill, Rhino and robot simulation software, among other programs, to create tool paths, place and orient models within blocks, orient blocks on the robot, and output robot code. You’ll devise milling strategies that are highly efficient and precise, and do so with an eye towards what’s beautiful and minimizes our carvers’ hand finishing time. Sometimes, the marks of the robot are part of the artwork, and these must be programmed with artistic intent.
• You’ll oversee the physical preparation and orienting of blocks on the robot to align with your designs.

You don’t need specific experience in working with 7 axes or with stone. We will train you in that.

On the design side:

• We have ongoing needs in 3D digital design and modeling. If you have these design skills, we’ll also have you work on the projects you’re suited for, whether figurative art, graphic design, or architectural ornament. You’ll use software such as Zbrush, Rhino, Revit, Grasshopper etc. Previous AutoCAD experience is also useful.

We’re building AI-enabled stone carving factories in order to create cities with the splendor of Florence, Paris, or pre-war New York, at a fraction of the cost. Today, combining advanced robotics with traditional hand carving, Monumental Labs produces custom stone sculpture for artists, architects, and collectors.

We’re excited to bring the stone craft ecosystem back to the United States, and we’re building an elite team of designers, artists, sculptors, and engineers to do it. We’re currently based in Mt. Vernon, NY, 6 miles north of Manhattan, but are moving to a larger facility in NYC soon.
